A recent Japanese study revealed a connection between late-onset Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s-related brain changes. Researchers found that Parkinson’s patients diagnosed in their 80s were significantly more prone to amyloid buildup, a key indicator of Alzheimer’s, regardless of dementia symptoms. This higher rate of amyloid positivity was observed when compared to younger Parkinson’s patients. Interestingly, the overall amyloid presence in Parkinson’s patients was less than in healthy individuals of the same age, implying that Parkinson’s disease could influence Alzheimer’s development in the brain.
