Scientists have identified PP2A-B55alpha as a crucial controller of mitochondrial quality, managing both the removal of damaged mitochondria and the generation of new ones. Experiments using Parkinson’s disease models showed that decreasing the activity of this regulator led to improvements in both symptoms and mitochondrial function. This discovery holds potential for developing new treatments for Parkinson’s disease, mitochondrial-related conditions, and possibly even cancer.
