In light of Ohio’s recent enactment of the SAFE Act, which prohibits gender-affirming care for minors, mental health professionals are seeking guidance on how to continue supporting their transgender clients within the new legal framework. To address these challenges, a specialized workshop was recently held, offering strategies and best practices for practitioners.
The workshop emphasized the importance of understanding the legal restrictions imposed by the SAFE Act while finding ethical ways to provide necessary mental health support to transgender youth. Participants discussed alternative therapeutic approaches and the critical role of mental health services in promoting well-being among transgender individuals.
By equipping professionals with the tools to navigate these changes, the workshop aimed to ensure that transgender clients continue to receive compassionate and effective care, despite the limitations on certain medical interventions.
